The South Windsor Community Foundation Spelling Bee 

The South Windsor Community Foundation joined the roster of Bee sponsors one year ago. More than 300 elementary and middle school students participated in the Foundation's inaugural spelling bee program.

The Foundation conducted one bee for each grade within their five elementary schools and one bee for each grade within their middle school. The top three finishers from each grade-level bee participated in a spell-off, and the top three spellers from each school advanced to the Foundation's final bee.

Cary Prague, who serves as both treasurer and "official beekeeper" for the South Windsor Community Foundation, attended Bee Week 2011 to meet and share best practices with other sponsors. Among other things, Cary shared that he has developed several bee-themed fund-raisers, including a "sponsored word" opportunity: For $10 a family can sponsor a word in the Foundation's bee.
