We look forward to seeing you during your school's competition and hope we will
also see you for the finals at TE on March 8, 2012.
The schedule of school spelling bees is on the right side of this page.
Pay special attention to the times of your bee. If you're not checked in
(or in line to check in) by the end time of your grades check in on the
day of your bee, you will
not be allowed to compete.
There are NO exceptions to this rule- so bee on time!
You can study for your school Spelling Bee
by reviewing words for your grade,
one grade below you and
and several grade levels above you.
You can download many of the actual words that will be in
your spelling bee from the links on the left side of the page. These will only be
some of the words in the bee. Other words will come from the official dictionaires
of the spelling bee.
Once you register (starting September 1st), you will receive emails
from the Spelling Bee with some fun events and contests you can participate
in and win prizes. Keep watching this web page for more information
and links to contest pages.
Here's how the bee will work:
You will compete at your school against your classmates from your grade. You
will
be on stage in front of all your friends and relatives and even some of your
teachers. Some of your school's teachers, some area celebrities and even
politicians will read a word to you to spell. You can ask for it to be used in a
sentence if you want. You will start by getting words from your grade or the grade before or after. Most words are on a word list from our web site but some are from other places like the SpellIt materials or the dictionary. If you
answer the word correctly, you move on to the next round. After one or more
rounds, the words
will get harder to spell. The competition will continue until there
is only one speller left. The top three spellers in your grade will be declared the winners of the bee.
They will get a trophy and move on to the next level of competition.
No matter what you are a winner. You will receive participation gifts including
several logoed items from the South Windsor Spelling Bee and a goodie bag from Rockville Bank when you compete. You will also receive a nice certificate of participation with your name on it and the name of your school and grade. If you misspell a word you will receive a nice medal for competing and a thank you from
a member of the Spelling Bee volunteer group.
Elementary School Winners:
At each elementary school, there will be two competitions. First Grades 3 and 4
will compete together. Three winners will
be named and they will immediately
compete with the 5th graders. The top three winners will become school champions
and move on to the finals at Timothy Edwards on March 8, 2012.
Middle School Winners
Each of the three grade winners at Timothy Edwards will receive a special trophy
and move on to compete in the finals at Timothy Edwards on March 8, 2012 for the right to represent South Windsor at the National Spelling Bee in June 2012.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee—an educational icon for eight decades will again be held in our nations' capitol - Washington DC. This will be the destination of our winner.
An all expense paid trip (transportation, hotel, meals, entry fees, and some expense
money) to compete in the National Spelling Bee.
Will it You?
